Shine waves goodbye in Oundle

The final Shine illumination event took place in Oundle last Saturday, to another wonderful crowd of parishioners and local families.

As a celebration of the entire Shine project, the audience were treated to a unique finale featuring some of the best images of Shine events so far, and a special 'goodbye' message projected onto the church tower by our fantastic sketch artist, Paul Gent.

Thanks to everyone who has shared their personal memories with us and helped co-ordinate Shine at the 5 historic church buildings across Northamptonshire. It's been brilliant!

Rothwell sees the biggest Shine audience yet!

As we approach the end of the Shine illuminations, word is certainly spreading fast across the county... Holy Trinity Church in Rothwell saw around 700 people gather to enjoy the Shine illuminations and exhibits, with another great performance from the Holy Trinity Church Choir.

Make sure you don't miss out on the chance to see one of these spectacular events. The very last one takes place at St Peter's Church in Oundle on this Saturday, the 22nd. Wrap up warm because it might be a chilly one!

Thank you to everyone who came to Shine in Earls Barton

Our second Shine event took place in Earls Barton on Saturday, after a glorious day of baking hot sunshine.

We estimated that over 500 people attended the event or took part in one of the workshops that were held at Earls Barton Infant and Junior Schools, and with the local Rainbows, so thank you if you're one of those many people who made the Earls Barton Shine such a success!

Shine in Brixworth is a massive success!

Our first Shine illumination event took place at All Saints' Church in Brixworth on Saturday night and by all accounts it was a great success! We estimate that almost 500 people attended to see the oldest of our 5 churches illuminated in spectacular style, and investigate the building‘s history through a series of digital exhibits.

The event could not have come together without the help and support of Northamptonshire County Council, the Friends of All Saints' Church, Brixworth Primary School, the All Saints' Heritage Centre and the All Saints' Church Choir.

See you all at the next one in Earls Barton on the 1st of October!

Be a part of Shine - we're still looking for your images and videos

The Watch This Space artists are currently working hard on making the Shine events this autumn really spectacular, but we still need your help for Earls Barton, Northampton, Rothwell and Oundle!

Please do get in touch if you have any images or videos of the churches, their vicars, congregations and any other celebratory events that have taken place over the years. You may have wedding or christening photos, group shots of old choirs, or even images of fetes and open days. We can arrange to copy your originals so your property remains safe and will credit all the help we receive in the event acknowledgments.

Email megan@watch-this-space.org.uk if you think you may be able to help.

Many thanks!

Start times are confirmed for Shine illumination events

The start time for the Shine illumination events has now been confirmed as 7.30pm, so make a note in your diaries!

At each church, refreshments will be provided by local volunteers from around 7pm, and visitors will be asked to gather outside the church for a spectacular opening... But, don‘t worry if it‘s raining, as soon afterwards you will have the chance to explore a unique ‘digital playground' of interactive exhibits, both indoors and out. Then, each event will finish with local choirs and music groups.

Don‘t forget to tell all your friends!

Shine taster sessions are a success!

The Shine team have been travelling all around Northamptonshire this summer, providing free lantern-making workshops and talking to local residents about their church memories. We‘ve been to events at each of the five churches involved and have heard a great many wonderful stories. Thank you to everyone who has come along to contribute to Shine so far!

This picture comes from the Cultural Olympiad Open Day at Althorp Estate in July. Shine is part of the Cultural Olympiad‘s Igniting Ambition Festival, and so we would like to thank all the event organisers at Daventry District Council for having us. We wish we had remembered suncream!
